Many tourists are familiar with Strečno Castle on the way between Vrútky and Žilina. However, many do not know that another castle is located only a few dozen kilometres away.

Starhrad or Starý Hrad (Old Castle) seems to be inaccessible from the road next to the Váh River. However, there is a path leading to the ruins.

Its original name is Varín Castle. The name Old Castle started to be used after Strečno was built. The oldest mentions of the castle originated in the 13th century.

The hike to the castle starts at Nezbudská Lúčka and takes about an hour from the tourist mark. It offers a great view of the Váh River.
