Ryanair, the Irish low-cost carrier, will return to Košice airport in summer 2020 after it scrapped its flights from Košice in this year's winter schedule.

“We are pleased to announce a new connection between Košice and London Stansted starting in April 2020,” Olga Pawlonka, Ryanair’s sales and marketing manager for CEE and Balkans, said, as quoted in the press release.

The first plane should, therefore, take off on April 1 as part of the summer schedule.

Stansted to replace Southend

“The London flights have long been our most successful destination and still has a high growth potential,” Košice Airport general director Michael Trnej said, as quoted in the press release.

He added the currently allocated capacity is not sufficient and does not cover the overall demand of passengers.

Although Ryanair will return for summer 2020, the airliner has changed where its planes will land in London next year. In 2019, all its aircraft from Košice landed at Southend but as of 2020, Ryanair will use Stansted instead.

Tickets on sale

Ryanair launched its first flight from Košice only in April of this year.

At the end of August, the company announced it would cease to operate flights from Košice in winter because of the global civil aviation crisis after the Boeing 737 MAX grounding. The last flight in 2019 is planned for October 26.

However, travellers can already purchase tickets for next year's flights.
