The current frosty weather is ideal for visiting a sauna. In Bratislava, lovers of this health-promoting activity have a wide choice of places where they can enjoy it: from a former dungeon, outdoor saunas, saunas at reasonable prices to luxury spa centres.

“Having a sauna in freezing weather is ideal because we then enjoy the warmth of the sauna more,” Lukáš Kubica, founder and chief executive of Pixxla, the company which operates outdoor self-service saunas built into shipping containers, told The Slovak Spectator.
He recommends staying in a sauna up to the point where you feel mild discomfort to gain the best post-sauna effect.

“The longer you remain in discomfort, the more intense and longer lasting the good feeling after the sauna,” he said, recommending sticking to a proper drinking regime. “It’s important to keep an eye on your intake of drinks and not overdo it with your stay inside the sauna. You can have a few cups of warm tea or plain water while taking a sauna; I wouldn’t recommend alcohol.”
