According to the F.D. Roosevelt Hospital medical board, PM Robert Fico's (Smer) condition has been gradually improving and developing in line with the prognoses set by his medical team.

Juraj C., who was charged with attempted premeditated revenge killing, remains in custody. He did not appeal in time against the decision.

This summer season Croatia is expecting more tourists than last year, when over half a million Slovaks travelled to the Adriatic Sea. The vast majority chose to travel by car.

This year, the popular BRaK book festival is moving to the Staré Mesto borough. Over the course of three days, workshops, readings, discussions with domestic and foreign writers, theatrical performances, concerts, book selling and much more will take place in several venues in the city centre.   • Speaking on public broadcaster RTVS' political talk show on Sunday, President Zuzana Čaputová said that the offer concerning a round-table meeting of parliamentary parties still holds, adding that she respected some parties preferring a later date for the meeting, and that she perceived an effort for appeasement across the political spectrum.   • The man who threatened to shoot Nitra Region Governor Branislav Becík was not placed into custody, according to the Nové Zámky District Court. The man has been placed under supervision of a probation and mediation officer. He is prohibited from travelling abroad, must regularly see the officer, must not intentionally approach Becík at a distance of fewer than five metres, as well as contact him. In addition, he must not loiter near Becík's home and is forbidden from consuming alcoholic beverages. (My Nitra)

  • Approximately 80 employees of the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava are threatening to file resignation notices, because of lengthy negotiations primarily concerning salary increases. Over two months, nine rounds have already taken place with another one planned this week. According to an anonymous source, even employees who are difficult to replace are willing to resign. (Index)

  • The Defence Ministry has proposed a deployment of five Slovak soldiers to the operational headquarters of the European Union's Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Operation ASPIDES in Greece. The goal is to ensure maritime security and freedom of navigation in light of the crisis in the Red Sea. The deployment of the soldiers must be approved by both the government and Parliament. (TASR)

  • Former Slovak ombudswoman Mária Patakyová has been awarded the French National Order of Merit. French Ambassador to Slovakia Pascal Le Deunff praised her "distinguished academic career in law and her remarkable commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms, which France cares deeply about". The honorary order is for individuals, whether French or foreign, who have shown exceptional merit in their field of activity. (TASR)
