Ammunition from World War II found outside Podolie

INHABITANTS of Podolie found unknown ammunition outside their municipality. After calling a pyrotechnic they found out that it is an artillery missile of 122 millimetres calibre of Soviet making, dating back to World War II.

Podolie is a village in the Nové Mesto nad Váhom district in western Slovakia. The location of the discovery on February 24 was thoroughly searched but no other ammunition was found.

Police pyrotechnics seized the missile and transported it to a quarry in Čachtice to be destroyed, the SITA newswire wrote.

In Slovakia, remnants of the World War II are still found even today. Police warn people who find ammunition to leave it in place as it can explode; and rather contact police by calling 158.
