Organisers of the biggest open-air festival in Slovakia, Pohoda, held annually in Trenčín, are organising a concert to pay tribute to Ján Kuciak and freedom of speech. The open-air concert for Ján and Martina will take place on Sunday, March 4, at 17:00 in the Main Square in Bratislava.
Michal Kaščák, head of the festival, was shocked by the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancé Martina Kušnírová and decided to organise the concert. All the musicians he approached accepted the offer immediately. The concert will be a place for speeches as well as for the music of the attending musicians.
“Music has power, cultural events have power, but what is crucial is whether they take place in a country in which all important freedoms are secured,” said Kaščák, as cited by the Sme daily.
The list of musicians includes Czech singer David Koller, Slovak rapper Vec, B-Complex, Slovak bands Bez ladu a skladu, Korben Dallas, Živé kvety, Billy Barman, Para, Longital, Modré hory, and Muzička. Jozef Lupták, Marián Svetlík and Andrej Baran will perform a composition by Marián Varga.
Investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová, were murdered in their house in Veľká Mača near Galanta (Trnava Region).
