Font size: A - | A +

1. Corleone Pizzeria- Topping our poll is the namesake restaurant which moved their pizza operations to a nice, yet more casual spot around the corner. The service is quick and the thin, wide pizzas will fill up your hungry stomach. We highly recommend the loaded vegetarian pizza. Arched roofs create a pleasant atmosphere, especially for smokers. $$. Eng. menu: yes. Res: yes. Hviezdoslavovo nám. < 10:00-22:00, M-Su.

2. La Mamma- Easily accessible behind the gray, marble walls of the Istropolis high-rise at Trnavské Myto, this restaurant's real star is the calzone, a slab of pizza wrapped up in a lightly-baked crust and stuffed with ham, mushrooms, artichokes and laced with mozzarella cheese. Start with the salad bar, which at this time of year is laden with fresh vegetables, but avoid the grilled cutlet. $$. Eng. menu: no. Res: yes. Škultétyho 10. % 271-938. < 11:00-22:00.

3. Umag- Excellent, wide, thin-crust pizzas with a Croatian coastal flair. Among the pie highlights here are the Pizza Ananas and the Pizza Bratislava (don't let the corn deter you). Beware: the calzone comes with anchovies and an egg. Service is polite, attentive, and swift. If you can, sit in the upstairs room and back in the sun's rays while protected by tinted windows. Otherwise, the downstairs area has separate smoking and non-smoking rooms. Located between the Ministries of Finance and Transportation, Umag gets its share of government lunch-goers. $$. Eng. menu: no. Res: no. Žilinská ul. < 11:00-22:30.

4. Spaghetti & Co. - It's hard to go wrong with this restaurant on anything - including the pizza, which gets high ratings for their creativity, or oddness, depending on what you like. Examples: a spinach pizza or a gorgonzola pie, among other fancy combinations. Regardless, you can count on quality and freshness and attentive service. Their outdoors area resembles a live set of Melrose Place in the summer. $$$. CC: yes. Eng. menu: yes. Res: yes. Gorkého 1. % 332-303.

5. Pizzeria Ciao- This place tends to be forgotten during the winter months, but come summer, the expansive patio beckons, as does the sweet smell of authentic Italian thin-crust pizza. We say it's as close as you're going to getb to the real thing, because the pies are cooked in a wood-burning oven, with real tomato sauce to boot. You'll also find a well-stocked salad bar, and hefty desserts that make a nice change from palacinky. Service can be slow, but the food is worth the wait, and the patio makes it even better. $$. CC: no. Eng. menu: no. Res: yes. Trnavská Cesta 37. % 212-109.
