MORE than 2,000 children from Slovakia and abroad entered their original Christmas card designs in the fourth annual international competition for the most beautiful Christmas Card. Miroslav Žabenský from the Oravské Osvetové Stredisko (Orava Culture Centre) told The Slovak Spectator that children from about 200 kindergarten, elementary and art schools from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia sent a total of over 2,700 works on the theme of Christmas, winter nature and habits and biblical motifs linked with Christmas in the contest.
“The aim of the competition is to encourage children’s efforts, give them space for presentation and uncover new talents,” said Žabenský.
The winning works are exhibited in the Town Culture Centre in Dolný Kubín until January 11. Other works are displayed in Bratislava, Warsaw, Bielsko-Biala and Milowka in Poland, and Ostrava and Kozlovice in the Czech Republic.
Children between 7 and 11 years old sent the highest number of entries in which coloured drawing dominated among the artistic techniques. And this year, for the first time, the organisers received a large number of entries created by computer graphics.
“The cards confirm the high artistic level and talent of children,” said Žabenský.
The Orava Culture Centre is the organiser of the competition as well as related exhibitions.
