Bratislava EXHIBITION: MAN – both as an individual and as a part of a community – is the focus of a new photographic exhibition being held in Bratislava. The photographers, eleven members of the Friends of Photography Club of the Central European House of Photography, have different approaches but the same goal, namely to hold a mirror up to ourselves. Though the motifs are varied, they are mostly inspired by mundane, everyday situations, or simply “a moment”. Man in Focus is on show at U Červeného Raka (At the Red Crayfish) City Library Summer Reading Room at Michalská 26 daily between 9:00 and 19:00 until September 9. Admission is free. DANCE: Japanese Folklore in Slovakia – Two dance and martial arts ensembles from the Japanese town of Toyota show how samurais used to fight against evil spirits hundreds of years ago. Moreover, the Japanese Embassy’s Chef, Shoichi Sato, will be carving an ice sculpture on the spot.

FESTIVAL: THOSE WHO wish to enter the magical world of poetry, theatre and music need only visit the scenic town of Banská Štiavnica between August 18 and 22. Its streets, cafés and churches will be celebrating the Muses through the 7th edition of the Cap l’Est festival with, but not only, Portugal in the spotlight. Dozens of artists from across Europe will meet to offer the local audience an unforgettable experience as well as a “symphony of languages” since many of them will perform in their mother tongues.
