In the heart of Bratislava, the historic Old Market Hall (Stará tržnica) is once again engaging in a conversation with contemporary art. The latest exhibit features an innovative installation by Slovak photographer and multimedia artist Lousy Auber. “It creates an intimate, yet monumental space,” said Zuzana Pacáková, exhibition curator and festival organiser. “It's an imaginary temple that connects the interior and the exterior.”

“It came about by using a balloon during a photo shoot or a spin on set,” he said in an interview with the Refresher website. “We were all excited about the inside of it, so I had the idea to make an installation out of it. The first installation was at White Night with one balloon, there are three in the Old Market Hall. But from the beginning I had even bigger ambitions. The original plan was to hang 10 balloons and make it a kind of balloon town.”

Pacáková sees bubbles as symbols of connection, fragility, cooperation and diversity.

“This whole installation is about not being afraid to connect our bubbles,” said Pacáková. “Also, just because we’re different, it doesn’t mean we can’t exist together.”

The visitors can enter the balloons and examine their interior, even attend events organised inside them, becoming an active part of this art.

The feeling of contemplation, harmony and freedom is underscored by the original music composed for this immersive installation by Jonatán Pastirčák.

Throughout the summer the unconventional environment of the Bubbles creates space for a diverse programme ranging from community initiates, via music and dance performances, workshops, author readings, exhibitions and concerts, to yoga classes.
