Story of the August occupation 1968

Thursday, 21 August, 20:00, Main Square

Bratislava, as both a political and cultural centre, felt the full force of the Warsaw Pact invasion on 21 August 1968. This special evening marks the anniversary with open-air screenings of two significant films:

Black Days (Čierne dni) – A 30-minute documentary capturing the events of the occupation in Bratislava and the defiance of its citizens. Introduced in person by co-director Milan Černák.

322 – Dušan Hanák’s bold indictment of a regime that stifled truth and humanity, banned for 20 years after the occupation. Introduced in person by the director himself.

An evening of remembrance, art and reflection on the events that shaped Slovakia’s freedom and cultural identity.
