ETHNO/DANCE: Aloha Spring Europe – After the first session from last year, the tradition of Hawaiian dance workshops with their ensuing dance show continues this spring. The evening gala will present dancers of the traditional Hawaiian dance, hula, in its ancient form – kahiko, and its modern form – awana, from all over Slovakia, as well as from Hungary, Austria, and maybe other European countries. CONCERT: Melody Perkelt – Perkelt is a traditional Hungarian meal but it is also popular in Slovakia. The jazz/swing band, Funny Fellows, offers a vintage musical evening in the spirit of the1930s, reminding the audience of this gastronomic feast, as hosted by the actors Anka Šišková, and Csongor Kassai. EXHIBITION: Katalin Madarász Decsi: Transparent Pieces / Transparentné Kusy – The exhibition of this Slovak artist presents minimalistic, symbolic works made with cabbage juice on packaging paper, as curated by Máté Csanda; it lasts only until the end of the week. EXHIBITION: Tatrahundert – The project that was the result of a residential stay in the High Tatras by Slovak visual artists – a hundred years after the Great-Hungarian army officer Gyula Hembach sketched the views from his hotel room in Tatranská Lomnica in the High Tatras, and the surrounding vistas – shows how they decided to “follow in his footsteps” and exhibit their impressions of the mountain range. Works of the artists Jan Čumlivski, Jakub Roček, Tomáš Džadoň, Juraj Gábor, Dominika Jackuliaková, Nico Krebs, Peter Krupa, Svätopluk Mikyta, Michal Moravčík, Štefan Papčo, Lucia Papčová, Rastislav Podoba, Johana Pošová, Peter Puklus, Luděk Rathouský – curated and put together by Svätopluk Mikyta, with catalogue by Ján Kralovič – can be seen in the Central-Slovak Gallery (Stredoslovenská galéria), with the participation of Banská St A Nica Contemporary. THEATRE: Denník Anny Frankovej / The Diary of Anne Frank – The famous story of a Jewish teenage girl hiding for years from Nazi power and persecution in a contained space has with the SDKE taken a new form, that of experimental dance theatre. Written by Ondrej Šoth and Zuzana Mistríková, choreographed and directed by the former – who also selected the music – the premiered piece features popular Slovak actress, Táňa Pauhofová, in the main role. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Requiem – The St Cecilia Choir and Chamber Orchestra of the St Elizabeth Cathedral in Košice will perform one of the highlights of Mozart’s works, and of choir music in general, as conducted by Viliam Gurbaľ, with Júlia Gurbaľová as soprano, Andrea Nemcová as alto, František Biroš as tenor, and Marián Lukáč as bass.
