The premiere of the opera Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi brings a staging directed by Oscar-winning Czech director Jiří Menzel. Falstaff is Verdi’s last work and his only comedy opera. The main storyline is inspired by William Shakespeare’s comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor.

MARKET: St Andrew’s Market (Ondrejsky jarmok), Komárno, November 10-12
If you haven’t visited Komárno on the Slovak-Hungarian border yet, the weekend when this annual market takes place in the city is a good opportunity to do so.
On Saturday, November 11, the programme of the market includes the Festival of Sausage.
Stroll around the city centre, taste the local specialties at the market and make sure to include in your plans a visit to the majestic fortress outside town.

The concert version of the Madam Butterfly opera by Giacomo Puccini in the Slovak Sinfonietta (ŠKO Žilina) will be conducted by Christian Pollack from Austria, with soloists also from Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden (Cecilia Berglund, soprano, Rita Schneider, mezzo-soprano, Eugene Amesman, tenor, Georg Lehner, baritone, Václav Morys, tenor) and the choir of the State Opera Košice.

WINE ROUTE: Day of Open Cellars, Small Carpathian Wine Route, November 17-18
This popular event welcomes all wine lovers to visit small cosy cellars as well as spacious modern wineries and degustation rooms in Devín, Bratislava, Rača, Svätý Jur, Limbach, Modra, Častá, Doľany, up until Trnava. The cellars will be open on November 17 and 18 between 12:00-21:00.

RUN: Chateau Run Topoľčianky (Zámocký beh Topoľčianky), Chateau Park, November 17 at 10:30.
The 8 km and 16 km runs start opposite the façade of the classicist chateau in Topoľčianky, and continues by the hunting chateau, along the horserace track and through the forest park, up to the horse stables and back. The capacity of this year’s second edition run has been filled already, but it pays to visit the place during the event and take a tour around the park and the castle.
