ACTOR Juraj Kukura became the official new director of Aréna theatre, after former director, mime Milan Sládek, moved to Germany.
Kukura was elected to the position by 33 of the present 34 representatives of the Bratislava Regional Office on September 25. The other only candidate was Ľubomír Burgr, an actor and musician with the Stoka theatre, who had planned to create an alternative drama setting out of the mainly dance and pantomime oriented Aréna.
The commission opted for Kukura because his plans with the theatre are on a wider scale and appeal to a large audience, through staging performances ranging from plays to dance and pantomime.
"If this theatre was not successful in the past it was because it didn't serve the people it should have - the region," said Kukura.
