Liptovksá Teplá is one of the oldest settlements in the Liptov region. As in most Slovak villages, the local church is the most precious local monument. And, in the case of Liptovská Teplá, the church really is a jewel because some of its early Gothic parts date back to the 13th century. This image from the 1930s shows the church and its cupola-shaped belfry. The rectory stands in front.
An interesting personality with an interesting name lived in Liptovská Teplá in the 14th century. Ján Literát (John Man of Letters is the literal translation), as his name indicates, dealt with writing, but in a dishonest way. He was a renowned falsifier of documents. However, crookedness was punished even then: for his illicit activities Ján Literát was burned to death in nearby Liptovská Mara in 1390.
