The famous history of Bratislava, which used to serve as a coronation city in the past, was back during the final week of June when Maria Theresa was crowned here once again. Georg Habsburg, descendant of the house of Habsburg long ruling in the Kingdom of Hungary, was the honorary guest at the authentic ceremony.
The festive weekend started already on Friday with an exhibition, a fair of period crafts, sightseeing tours followed by the main ceremony taking place in the Jesuit church on June 25. Originally Maria Theresa was crowned in the St Martin’s cathedral. The monarch, who was only 24-year old at that time, was depicted by young lawyer Radka Kolkusová.

The programme was followed by folk festivities when the plan to tap Frankovka wine from the Vtáčia fontána fountain at Ventúrska Street failed due to a missing part. Part of the festival, which ended on Sunday, was the festival of Frankovka wine.
This year was already the 14th edition of the coronation ceremonies. Next year the festival will take place between June 23 and 25 when Elisabeth Christine will be crowned here again. The coronation of Maria Theresa, as the most famous monarch crowned in Bratislava, will repeat after five years in 2021.
