Afterburn, an action movie starring Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, is currently being filmed in Slovakia.

Although the film is said to be shot mostly in Bratislava, several local media outlets have noticed that the film crew also relocated to a quarry in Pohranice, a village near Nitra. A scene near the quarry was filmed on May 8, but the crew appears to be filming near the village these days as well. A road section is partially closed due to a film scene shot at the local farm until Friday, May 17.

The film, set a decade after a solar flare ravaged technology across the globe, has been adapted from a graphic novel series of the same name.

“Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world building of Children of Men,” said producer Toby Jaffe.

Jackson, who is known for his roles in Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained, plays a supporting role in the film. He portrays a freedom fighter. Dave Bautista, who appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, portrays a former soldier working for influential clients.

The film is expected to cost more than €100 million. Slovakia will provide a subsidy of €16 million.

In Slovakia, several scenes have been shot in Sereď and Holíč. Samuel L. Jackson was also spotted in Bratislava last month. He dined at Massimo Ristorante, an Italian restaurant by the Danube River, where he went for seafood, pizza Margherita, and raspberry sorbet.

Afterburn is said to hit cinemas next year.
