IN JULY, designers, shoemakers and other workers at footwear maker Novesta, in Partizánske, worked on one of the most interesting assignments in the history of Slovakia’s footwear industry. Christopher Ciccone, younger brother of pop singer Madonna, asked the plant in Partizánske to make shoes for his collection, to be presented at the Autumn London Fashion Week, the Pravda daily reported.
Ciccone is the creator of the design, style and promotion campaign for the collection. He designed 30 pairs of women’s, men’s and children’s footwear, in which he combined textiles, rubber and leather. The collection was to be introduced at the London Fashion Week in mid September, Novesta spokesperson Kristína Mohrová said in July.
Ciccone was made aware of the plant in Partizánske by a friend, Miro Šimonič, who owns a modelling agency.
“Our shoes at the exhibition in Las Vegas also caught his attention,” said Lukáš Beliansky, one of three designers at Novesta, who participated with Ciccone on preparation of the collection.
Novesta exports most of its production to North America, Asia and European countries, with only a small portion sold in Slovakia.
