THE picture from 1902 shows an inn, the kind that was once frequently seen at the side of Slovak roads. This wooden inn was situated on the route between the Tatran village of Tatranská Štrba and the popular lakeside tourist resort of Štrbské Pleso.
Erected in the early 1880s, the inn served mostly forest workers and carters, but also soldiers based in Štrbské Pleso. In the 1920s the inn still sold cheap food and drinks. Today, there is a department store where it used to stand.
