'Cats' is back

After many years, Cats, one of the most iconic musicals ever, is back in Bratislava. The music was created by Andrew Lloyd Weber based on a poetry collection by T. S. Eliot. Several performances of the musical are slated for March and April at the Divadlo Nová Scéna theatre in Bratislava. Admission starts at €25. Be quick though, tickets are selling out. If you cannot make it this weekend, don't fret, you have another opportunity at the end of March and in the middle of April.

New alternative music

Košice-based music producer Braňo Findrík, also known under his stage name Dead Janitor, has just released a new album POST. With 15 years on the alternative scene under his belt, Dead Janitor is known for his experiments with abstract electronic music. The new album, however, marks his venture into the post-punk genre. A concert debuting the album will take place on Saturday evening, in Košice's Na Peroné theatre. Admission is €5. Learn more here.

Speaking of concerts, don't forget about the piano recital of Ludovico Einaudi's music on Saturday in Nové Zámky, as well as the Harry Potter movie music by candle light on Friday in Martin. More on those below.

MISCELLANEOUS FUN

A day for mineral lovers

One of the largest exhibitions of its kind in Slovakia, the international exhibition of minerals, fossils, and jewellery from precious and decorative stones called Bratislavské Mineralogické Dni will take place this Saturday starting at 9 AM in the Dom Kultúry Ružinov culture house. More than 50 exhibitors from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Germany will offer visitors a glimpse into the world of inanimate nature. Admission is €3. Night sky observation

This Friday, the Bratislava City Museum will hold night sky observation with professional equipment and experts, allowing visitors to see Mars, Jupiter, Moon and other objects in space. The gates of Devín Castle near Bratislava will open at 18:30 in the evening, tickets can be bought on site. Visitors are urged to bring warm clothes and a red light torch or headlamp. If you happen to be in Hlohovec, Trnava Region, you too have the chance to observe the night sky. The local planetárium will be holding a similar event of its own on Friday starting at 18:00. The weather forecast seems very good this time around, so this might be a good opportunity to to have a closer look at various celestial objects.

The science of spring

Have you ever wondered what happens in nature when spring comes? The Steepark science park venue in Košice has you covered. During a creative workshop, a scientist will show you on several experiments how flowers grow, how water flows within them, as well as what happens to them when a sudden cold snap comes. The programme will take place on both weekend days and is suitable for children from 6 years of age. Admission is €8 for children, with additional €4 if accompanied. Grab the tickets here.

Skiing competition

This weekend, the Strachan ski resort in the High Tatras will be holding the 16th edition of its annual two day skiing competition for everyone regardless of age and skill. The goal is to show what you can do on the slope, have fun and soak in the atmosphere. The registration starts on Friday (but can be done online as well), while the main event takes place on Saturday, with music to boot. Admission is €10, find out more here.
