Sunshine in one’s face, the joy of skiing down a mountain and hot tea in a cottage. For many Slovaks, there is no winter without skiing and snowboarding.
Slovak ski resorts also belong among the favourite places of Poles, Hungarians, Austrians, Czechs and Germans, the statistics of Slovak Transport Ministry suggest.
Almost one hundred ski resorts around the country offer various levels of ski slopes, natural or artificial snow and often a programme for the entire day. Look at what new things you can expect in Slovakia’s popular ski resorts.

1. Vrátna
One of the first ski resorts in Slovakia is located in the Malá Fatra National Park, three kilometres from Terchová. The ski resort consists of three main localities:

Paseky, Poludňový Grúň and Chleb. While the first two mentioned offer ski slopes for skiers, snowboarders, cross-country skiers, and even families with children, the third one is suitable for free-riders and adrenaline skiers.
“Even though the ski resort is already open, the official start of the season is planned for December 26 in Paseky,” informed Natália Šimová, the spokesperson of Vrátna. She added that some special event on New Year’s Eve and Valentine along with snow-shows and some smaller races are planned. There are free ski-buses from and to Žilina during the weekend and holidays.
