Which are the most popular Slovak names for babies?

Sofia and Jakub, Sophia and James in English, remain the most popular names in Slovakia. In 2014, Jakub was replaced by Adam, but after two years, Jakub returned to its position, shows data of the Interior Ministry.

Apart from Sofia, frequent girls’ names are Nina, Natália, Ema, Viktória, Nela, Laura and Eliška. The most popular boys’ names are also Adam, Tomáš, Samuel, Michal, Martin, Filip, Matej and Oliver.

In 2018, name Jakub was used 1,264 times. Sofia was used 722 times, in comparison with 2017 when 1,027 girls were named Sofia.

Parents also often give their child non-Slovak names. In this case, they need to submit a document where it is confirmed that there is a country that uses this name.
