This week, the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute released its annual Digital News Report tracking media trends worldwide. If you believe that in democracies, people should try to actively inform themselves before they vote, the results are scary.
In perhaps the most bizarre finding, less than half of people (49 percent) in the 38 countries surveyed trust the media that “they themselves use”. In Slovakia, just 43 percent of people trust the media they voluntarily choose. Put another way, this means a majority of people seek out content they believe to be false.
