THE FIGHT against extremism, racism, chauvinism and neo-nazism is very important to the Slovak Government, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said at a meeting with Jewish organisations' representatives in New York on September 23, held alongside the UN General Assembly meeting, the TASR newswire reported.
Lajčák said that Slovakia is especially concerned about the import of extremism from abroad, something which Slovakia has experienced several times in recent months. He also noted that Slovakia will soon commemorate the 20th anniversary of democratic change in the country. In this respect he said that Slovakia has been successful and that it wants to prove itself to be a reliable, trustworthy and responsible partner.
Lajčák also participated in the opening of the 64th UN General Assembly in New York. He is heading the Slovak delegation this year and will speak at the Assembly on September 26 on behalf of the country.
Lajčák also attended a dinner with foreign affairs ministers of EU member countries and the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on September 22. He also had a bilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Liechtenstein, St. Lucia, Kazakhstan and others, as well as with the UN Assembly President Ali Abdussalam Treki.
