Kiska leaves as the most trusted politician

He entered the 2014 presidential campaign as a relatively unknown philanthropist and businessman. After the tough pre-election fight and four years in office there is hardly anything left that the public does not know about him.

In his four years in office President Andrej Kiska became the most trusted politician in the long run, leaving even the former prime minister Robert Fico behind in opinion polls. Kiska maintained public trust also after the recent political crisis triggered by the murder of Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová, but in the March 2018 poll of the Focus polling agency for the first time he saw more people saying that they did not trust him than those who trusted him.

On Tuesday he finally announced that he was not going to run in the presidential elections next year.

1. Scientologist and usurer

Kiska’s entry into politics was a turbulent one, mostly due to the peak election campaign in which he faced Robert Fico. The then prime minister labelled Kiska a scientologist and usurer, pointing to Kiska’s past business activities.
