“Police have started investigating this case of their own initiative and based upon their findings, further proceedings will be decided, as it is suspected that a crime is being committed,” spokeswoman of the Police Presidium Denisa Baloghová told the SITA newswire, adding that more details will be announced shortly.
The man who placed the ad allegedly comes from the northern Slovak town of Čadca, the TASR newswire wrote. Aktuality.sk news website contacted the man and he confirmed it was not a joke, nor a hoax and he was motivated to do so by his fear of Muslims, and also by other ads he noticed on the internet.
Head of the Police Academy and expert on criminal law, Lucia Kurilovská, opined for Aktuality.sk that such an advertisement bears all signs of criminal activity. “At first sight, it can be defined as inciting racial and related hatred against a specific group,” she said, adding that being placed online, such an ad is undoubtedly a public one. She also said that in such cases, a criminal complaint shall be filed with police.
