Slovak president Rudolf Schuster and Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda have signed the Athens Treaty, which paves the way for Slovakia's entry to the European Union, together with nine other countries.

"We are witnesses of an unprecedented united Europe. The Greek god Zeus surrendered to the charms of Europe, Poseidon's granddaughter and married her. Now we are here, below the Acropolis, sealing our alliance with the European Union," said President Schuster.
