Agreement on merger of Slovak and Czech railway cargo

Slovak Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny and Aleš Rebíček, his Czech counterpart, have agreed on a common procedure for the merger of national railway cargo transport operators ŽSSK Cargo and CD Cargo, Slovak Transport Ministry spokesman Marián Jánošík informed the SITA newswire on June 24.

The agreement includes a detailed plan to strengthen the position of the merged entities on the Slovak and Czech markets.

ŽSSK Cargo was founded at the beginning of 2005 when Železničná Spoločnosť split into two firms. ŽSSK Cargo is the cargo railway transport division. It is the second largest employer in the railway sector and the fourth largest employer in Slovakia, with 10,813 employees as of 2007. SITA
