THE HEAD of the Banská Bystrica district court, Ľudovít Bradáč, has been ordered by the Supreme Court disciplinary committee to stop breathalysing judges. Bradáč insists that there is a problem with judges drinking alcohol during court hearings, and that this is unacceptable within the justice system.

"On advice, in two serious cases I transferred people who were seriously dependent on alcohol," said Bradáč.

He asked Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic to remove the judges from office, and Lipšic has already agreed in one case on the basis that the judge has been unable to carry out his functions for six weeks.

Lipšic says he wants to change the judicial law to force judges to undergo alcohol testing.
