EACH YEAR the town of Poprad unveils a new addition to the town’s collection of Christmas decorations, one of which is a 12-metre tall angel made of wire that weighs 700 kilograms.

On December 1 the angel was placed in the middle of a roundabout in the town centre by a helicopter nicknamed Kristína, owned by the Air Transport Europe (ATE) company based in Poprad. ATE provides emergency medical services as well as special aerial work using its fleet of helicopters.

The task was technically demanding but the crew managed to put the angel in place with the help of a ground team. The helicopter crew already had some past experience with manipulating the huge angel as it had assisted a US-based production crew in filming the wire angel in Zádielská dolina, ATE spokesperson Sylvia Galajda told the SITA newswire.
