INDIAN-based steel giant ArcelorMittal began construction of its third production site in the western Slovak town of Senica in mid-2012. Approximately €15 million is being invested into the factory, which will produce laser-welded blanks for the automotive industry, and will employ another 35 people, the company wrote in its press release on the occasion of the cornerstone ceremony.
The plant is being built by ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks, which belongs to the industrial empire of Indian magnate Lakšmí Mittal, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote in late June 2012.
The expansion is a result of higher demand for laser-welded blanks for the automotive industry in Slovakia and neighbouring countries. The main customers in this region are PSA Peugeot-Citröen, Volkswagen, Škoda Auto, Ford and Kirchhoff.
ArcelorMittal’s new production facility in Senica is being built in an industrial park on an area of 9,000 square metres.
