Currently, foreigners from so-called third countries can work in Slovakia only if they have received a temporary stay permit. The new rules will introduce two phases, the TASR newswire wrote. The first one involves the possibility of staying a maximum of 90 days in Slovakia based on their Schengen visa and working permit. In the second phase, foreigners will be able to extend their stay if they ask to stay temporarily due to seasonal employment, which, however, may not exceed 180 days. The draft bill was proposed by Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák.
Their temporary stay application will thus be assessed under a single permit. Foreigners will receive one document entitling them both to stay and work.
The amendment, which introduces European directives on the matter, is aimed at simplifying the entry, stay and employment of certain groups of employees outside the EU in Slovakia, such as seasonal workers and workers in the framework of intra-corporate transfers. The submitted bill further simplifies conditions for employees working for centres of strategic services, as well as for entrepreneurs with innovative projects.
