THE SLOVAK government approved end-of-year bonuses for 51 heads of regional and district land offices on December 13 as proposed by Agriculture Minister Miroslav Jureňa.
The bonuses range between Sk11,000 and Sk17,000 for the officials’ "work in 2006", although many of the functionaries were installed in their posts only two to four weeks ago following a recent personnel shakeup.
Documentation on the bonuses was not accessible to the public.
Jureňa argued that the bonuses were justified because many of the new heads of the land offices had worked there even before being promoted.
"The bonuses are proportional. If a person worked as a regular employee, the reward corresponds with that post. If a person worked as the head of an office, the reward is adequate to a leadership position," the minister said.
