The former head of the Tax Directorate, Miroslav Mikulčík, is no longer being prosecuted. Mikulčík had been under investigation for nearly two months in connection with the collapse of the tax system, the Sme daily wrote.
In early April, Mikulčík was charged with violation of duties when administering other people's property. He signed a contract with IBM for delivery of software for the tax administration system which, however, failed, resulting in general havoc, and which cost the tax administration €8.8 million when it had to return to its previous system. An addendum to the contract stripped IBM of any responsibility for damages.
Recently, the Prosecutor's Office upheld Mikulčík's complaint and dropped the charge. However, the spokesperson of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Andrea Predajňová, informed that the case is still being investigated.
