Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák and his Hungarian counterpart Kinga Göncz on Tuesday gave former Slovak culture minister and Czechoslovak ambassador to Hungary Rudolf Chmel and mayor of the Hungarian village of Hejce Geza Rohaly awards for being good neighbours when it comes to Slovak-Hungarian relations.
Rohaly was chosen by the Hungarian side, while Chmel was selected by the Slovak one to receive the ‘Good Neighbourliness and Understanding Prize’ in Bratislava. Around 40 Slovak entities nominated people for the prize.
The people of Hejce offered their help to rescue teams and to the families of soldiers who died in a 2006 Slovak military plane crash in 2006. Rohaly was awarded on behalf of the whole village. TASR
