The conspiracy magazine Zem a Vek (Earth and Time) may face prosecution for inciting hatred against the Jewish community.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the offence of defamation of nation, race and belief as well as inciting national, racial and ethnic hatred for a story titled “The wedge of Jews among Slavs” earlier this year, the SITA newswire reported.

The prosecutor claims that the culprit, who publishes under the name Tibor Eliot Rostás, used historical quotes to present readers with statements that claimed that the Jewish community is the reason for the poor situation in society in the past and in the present day and that it subverts contemporary society, said spokesperson for the Special Prosecutor’s Office Jana Tökölyová.

Moreover, the statements can arouse hatred and the urge to act against the Jewish community in Slovakia, she added.

Since the story in question published in Zem a Vek magazine is distributed and sold in Slovakia and can be freely bought, the culprit with his actions publicly defames the Jewish nation, nationality and religion, and incites hatred against the nation and nationality, Tökölyová explained for SITA.

The criminal complaint against Rostás was submitted by Pavel Sibyla, executive director of the Stop Corruption Foundation, in mid-May. He claimed that the quotes used are not accompanied by any commentary. Conversely, the context of the story indicates that its author identifies with the statements, the Sme daily reported on its website.
