THE AMENDMENT to the Environmental Protection Law banning cyclists and horseback riders from straying from official paths was signed by President Ivan Gašparovič on July 17.
The revision, which will go into effect on September 1, 2007, stipulates fines of up to Sk5,000 (€150) for those who do not obey.
A petition protesting the ban and signed by over 16,000 people was given to the president but he said that similar legislation can be found in other EU member countries.
