Czech Airlines (CSA) is suspending flights between Prague and Bratislava as of August 1 until further notice after the company recently introduced several direct flights from Bratislava to major European cities, the TASR newswire reported.
"When Czech Airlines connected Bratislava with the global network of lines of the SkyTeam alliance, there was no longer any need to use transfer flights," said the company's spokesperson Hana Hejsková.
The Bratislava-Prague route was used mainly by travellers from Bratislava and western Slovakia who changed planes at the Prague airport to fly on to their final destinations.
Speaking to the Czech website iDnes.cz, Hejsková noted that a drop in passenger interest in the Bratislava-Prague route has made flights between the two cities no longer profitable.
