The Czech Republic hopes to succeed Slovakia, which was chosen on October 10 as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2006-2007.

"We want to launch new modern forms of co-operation," said Kukan, pointing out that Slovak diplomats will work at the Czech Embassies to Georgia and Ethiopia, while Czech diplomats will work at the Slovak Embassy to the UN in New York during the time that Slovakia sits on the UN Security Council.

Both foreign ministers also expressed support for the earliest possible entry of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU.
