THIS year the Danish parliament is supporting young people from new EU member states interested in participating in courses at Danish Folk High Schools. These are not typical high schools, but modern informal educational institutions offering study opportunities in the fields of history, arts, music, sports, philosophy, theatre, photography, etc. Teaching is done in English and students can also take English classes. Tuition fees of DKK 750-1,400 (Sk3,400-6,300) a week include accommodation and food. Scholarships are up to DKK600 weekly. Candidates must be at least 17 1/2 years old and permanent residents of Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia. The period of study can vary from 12 weeks to one year.
Applications for scholarship can only be submitted by the chosen Danish institution. Candidates must choose their preferred school at www.hojskolerne.dk and apply for courses there.
