Several diplomats from embassies situated in Bratislava dressed in orange on December 4 to express support with the UN’s campaign raising awareness of violence committed against women.
“Ireland is committed to working towards the elimination of all forms of violence against all women and girls,” Irish Ambassador to Slovakia, Hilda Ó Riain, told The Slovak Spectator.
One in three women in the world experience abuse and violence, the UN claims.
“We will do more to expand women’s choices and capabilities, to give women an equal voice and to end violence against women and girls,” Ó Riain added.
Orange the World

Apart from the Irish Embassy, diplomats from the embassies of Canada, the UK, the US, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Spain, Albania, Portugal, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and the EC Representation Office took part in the photo shoot in Bratislava, holding #HearMeToo or #OrangeTheWorld signs in their hands.
They joined global forces within the ongoing UN's 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, running between November 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and December 10 (Human Rights Day).
This year’s theme is Orange the World: #HearMeToo.
