Dog scandals in central Europe: From poisoning claims to killing plots

A Czech MP was taped plotting to kill a dog – years after Robert Fico convened a government meeting over a poisoned one.

Last week, the Czech election campaign was shaken by an unusual scandal involving Margita Balaštíková, a politician from Andrej Babiš’s ANO party. A secret recording revealed that, out of spite, she allegedly tried to arrange the killing of her ex-husband’s partner’s dog last year.

“When will you arrange for them to shoot her dog?” the MP can be heard asking another man in the recording, which was published last Wednesday by the news portal seznamzpravy.cz.

In response, Andrej Babiš immediately withdrew Balaštíková from the candidate list. The case is now under police investigation.
