EC: Slovakia worst-prepared country

European Commission general director for regional policy, Luiz Riera, believes Slovakia is the worst-prepared country for entry to the European Union, according to papers obtained by the daily Pravda.

The daily reports that Slovakia's deputy prime minister for European integration, Pál Csáky, was told by Riera on Monday that "in comparison with other accession countries, where there are also problems, Slovakia's problems have accumulated, and it is the least prepared country."

The problems include a failure to apply for grants from European funds available to the country.
