EuroTel profits up 91 per cent

Mobile phone operator EuroTel closed 2002 with a net profit of Sk586 million (14 million euro), up by 91 per cent from the year before, the company's management said yesterday.

EuroTel had 1.3 million customers at the end of 2002, representing a 27 per cent year-on-year increase.

Head of EuroTel Robert Chvatal said that despite the number of customers rising, his firm has recorded a slowdown in growth compared to the previous year. According to EuroTel's estimates, mobile-phone penetration in Slovakia stands at 56 per cent of the population.
