Former chair of the Slovak National Party (SNS) Ján Slota, who has been charged for drunk driving in the past, may return to court after the regional prosecutor’s office in Žilina accused him of threatening the moral education of youths.
“The accused was allegedly meeting with adolescent girls in restaurants and night clubs back in 2014 and 2015, drinking alcohol in their attendance, paying for alcohol for them and making sexual suggestions in front of them,” Milan Cisarik, spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, told the SITA newswire.
If the court finds him guilty, Slota may spend from six months to five years in prison.
The case was first reported by the Nový Čas daily in November 2015, after the police in Žilina received a criminal complaint against Ján S., accusing him of rape. It was filed by two girls aged 15 and 16, with one of them saying that Ján S. first got her drunk and gave her some pills, according to the daily. The incident reportedly happened in September 2015, in Žilina.
The police subsequently carried out a raid at Slota’s house. The former SNS head, however, rejected the accusations, explaining that actually one of the girls stole €800 from him in one pub.
Slota is already facing charges for drunk driving. The most recent case happened in the beginning of this year when he crashed his car into another vehicle in the village of Porúbka in Žilina district. The Žilina district court found him guilty of driving under the influence of addictives and sentenced him to a six-month conditional imprisonment with one-year conditional suspension and a six-year ban on driving.
