If parliament approves the amendment to the Civil Court Rule, the state won't pay yet for the lost dispute of state-owned betting and lottery company Tipos, Prime Minister Robert Fico said following the special Government session on November 27.
The Supreme Court ruled recently that Tipos must, by the end of November, pay Sk1.9 billion (€63.3 million) to Czech entrepreneur Radovan Vítek, who has taken over Tipos's debt to Czech Sportka. The decision was made in an eight-year legal case between Tipos and Športka for stealing Športka's know-how. The Finance Ministry, as Tipos’ sole shareholder, is to pay Sk1.4 billion (€46.47 million) of the verdict, while Tipos is due to pay Sk500 million (€16.6 million) from its own reserves.
But the amendment would allow the Prosecutor General to ask for a postponement of performability of verdicts. If Slovakia allowed state-owned betting and lottery company Tipos to go bankrupt, it could have lost as much as Sk3.5 billion (€116.17 million), and the lotteries would have to stop for a year, Finance Minister Ján Počiatek said during question time in Parliament on November 27.
