Fico once again most trusted politician

PRIME Minister Robert Fico remains the country’s most trusted politician, according to a survey conducted by the ÚVVM polling agency of the Statistics Office, which showed support for the leader of the Smer party at more than 33 percent.

President Ivan Gašparovič is the country’s second most trusted politician, with support at 15 percent. Rounding out the top three is Smer deputy chairman and Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, who received 12 percent.

Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Ján Slota came in fourth with 11 percent, ahead of opposition presidential candidate Iveta Radičová, with 9.5 percent. Vladimír Mečiar, chairman of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), earned the trust of 8.4 percent of respondents, which placed him sixth.

Respondents were asked to name any three politicians whom they trust the most, which is why the total does not add up to 100 percent. Almost 27 percent answered that they don’t trust anyone on the political scene.

The survey was taken between November 1 and November 7 on a sample of 1,316 people.
