Many Slovak manufacturing firms are opting to work through the two May bank holidays on Thursdays May 1 and 8, according to daily Pravda. Many white-collar workers, on the other hand, are taking holidays on the Fridays following the bank holidays as well as the days themselves.
Some firms have little choice but to continue as normal, especially those in the food trade. Stanislav Brúder from Tauris Rimavská Sobota, a meat-processing firm, explained: "When there are bank holidays and people go away to the countryside for long weekends there is more interest in our meat and meat products."
