The problematic universities include the Catholic University in Ružomberok, University of Alexander Dubček in Trenčín, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, the TASR newswire reported.
These schools have now got one year to rectify their pitfalls. If they fail to do so, the education minister may file a proposal to strip them of their university title.
The School of Management (Vysoká škola manažmentu) of the City University of Seattle in Trenčín failed to meet the criteria too while the University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA) only marginally managed to meet the criteria.
The six schools, that failed to meet the criteria, have problems, for example, with publication activities and PhD students' work.
Universities Comenius University in Bratislava, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and the Technical University of Košice had the best results. They were followed by Žilina University, the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and the Technical University in Zvolen.
