Klinika Kostka (source: Sme)
A private facility owned by Pavol Kostka contravened regulations when treating the assistant of non-affiliated MP Miroslav Beblavý. The information was confirmed by the MP himself, who referred to the confirmation issued by the Health Care Surveillance Authority (ÚDZS), the TASR newswire reported.
The Bratislava-based clinic has several flaws, the document suggests. Assistant Vincent Bujňák was not examined by a doctor, but by an employee responsible for rehabilitation.
“He was also treated using several therapies that result in the same effect, which is prohibited during a single visit, and the therapy took twice as long as usual,” Beblavý said, as quoted by TASR.
ÚDZS also revealed several flaws in the medical records. It is allegedly considering sanctions against the facility and has already turned to the Health Ministry, Beblavý added.
The authority has confirmed that “the above mentioned clinic is cheating”, the MP continued. It recorded that it treated his assistant with acupuncture, though he had refused it and no such treatment had taken place.
“The state-run insurer Všeobecná Zdravotná Poisťovňa (VšZP) failed in that it made a contract with Kostka concerning the therapy that lasted three hours, though such therapy should last no more than 60 minutes,” Beblavý told TASR, adding that due to the length of therapy the final price was higher.
ÚDZS carried out the inspection after receiving a motion from the members of the Slovak Medical Chamber, and also after the Sme daily published a series of stories concerning the activities of Kostka’s clinics. ÚDZS asked for the testimonies of dissatisfied patients, so Bujňák decided to visit the facility to be able to provide a proof, as reported by TASR.
VšZP meanwhile terminated the contract with Kostka Clinic. The reason was that ÚDZS has found several flaws in their agreement.
